Curry Night Cancelled

I’m afraid we haven’t sold enough tickets to make this weekend’s curry night viable.

It did stress in the Forerunner and subsequent email that we needed people to book by today. Obviously we are not a restaurant and we need to know numbers in advance so we can plan shopping and cooking etc….so I’m afraid, if you thought you could leave it until the weekend, you’ll now have to wait till next year!

NEW MAGISTRATES REQUIRED FOR YOUR LOCAL COURTS

Would YOU like to be a Magistrate?

Could YOU perform this valuable service for YOUR community?

The Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Justices of the Peace for Gloucestershire has announced that it will be recruiting new Magistrates this year to start sitting in court in 2018.

Magistrates are volunteers who hear cases in local courts – they deal with around 95 per cent of criminal cases in England and Wales. There have been Justices of the Peace in this country for well over 600 years.

Applications are welcomed from anyone aged 18 and above; the retirement age for Magistrates is aged 70. Anyone who is interested in applying should contact the recruitment website at: www.gov.uk/become-magistrate for full details of the application process.

To maintain a Bench that is representative of the Community we would particularly like to encourage applications from men, members of Black and Minority Ethnic communities, people in paid employment and people with a disability.

Up to 12 vacancies exist in the local justice area of Gloucestershire.

The Lord Chancellor will not generally appoint anyone over the age of 65, because the Lord Chancellor would normally expect someone to be able to sit for at least 5 years before retirement.

It is essential that potential candidates observe a Magistrates Court hearing a variety of adult crime cases, on at least three occasions, prior to making the application and these must have been carried out within the last 12 months. Candidates will be interviewed by the Committee and those appointed following recommendation will receive full training before commencing their judicial duties.

Please note that the closing deadline for receipt of applications is 24 March 2017 or when 36 eligible applications are received.

Kingscote Mobile Post Office starting w/c 6th Feb

Press Release

AGREED DATE FOR NEW MOBILE POST OFFICE VAN TO SERVE RURAL GLOCS COMMUNITIES

  • New services for Avening, Brimscombe, Chalford, Kingscote & Shipton Moyne
  • New Post Office mobile van service

To help serve five rural communities in the Stroud/Tetbury area, the Post Office is introducing a Post Office mobile van service.

The Postmaster for Royal Wootton Bassett Post Office will provide the service which starts the week commencing 6 February, with the exception of the Shipton Moyne service, where the date will be confirmed soon.

The mobile service is a travelling Post Office aboard a specifically designed vehicle that brings Post Office services and retail products to communities without relying on fixed premises that has formed part of our operational network for some years now.

Network Operations Manager, Neil Jenkins, said: “Since the temporary closure of the Post Offices for Avening, Brimscombe, Chalford, Kingscote and Shipton Moyne, we have sought a solution to restore services to these communities. The establishment of mobile services presents the best possible solution to restore Post Office services to these areas.”

During public consultation we received a small number of comments from customers and local representatives, mainly in support of our plans, as the communities welcomed the restoration of Post Office services to these villages, which currently have no Post Office services.

The agreed services are:

  • Chalford mobile service, road behind 1 Belvedere Mews, Chalford, Stroud, GL6 8PF. Opening Monday & Thursday: 9 – 10am.
  • Brimscombe mobile service, car park at the rear of The Ship Inn, Brimscombe Hill, GL5 2QN. Opening Monday & Thursday: 10.15 – 11.45am.
  • Kingscote Mobile service, Village Hall Car Park, Kingscote, Tetbury, GL8 8YR. Opening; Monday & Thursday: 12.45 – 1.45pm.
  • Avening mobile service, road opposite 65 Sunground, Avening, Tetbury, GL8 8NW. Opening Monday & Thursday: 2 – 3pm.
  • Shipton Moyne Mobile service, on the road opposite 3 Southside, Shipton Moyne, Tetbury, GL8 8PP. Opening Monday & Thursday: 3.30 – 4.30pm
