Summer Party – Friday 7th July

You are all warmly invited to Kingscote’s Summer Party on:

7pm to 11pm at the Village Hall

  • Hog Roast with Steel Band
  • Salads. Strawberries and Cream
  • Vegetarian option, but please mention that when booking.
  • Under cover if wet.
  • Tickets £8.00 per adult. £4.00 per child. Family Ticket £20.00.
  • Pay Bar

This should be a great evening with the steel band kindly offering their services.

Before we order the hog roast, we need to ensure we have sufficient numbers.

Pre-School Immunisation

Statistics show that Gloucestershire has a poor take-up of pre-school vaccinations, which are vital to protecting our more vulnerable children. We want to use every opportunity we can to promote vaccination to parents and remind them to check their child’s status at their GP surgery:

Key Messages

  • Make sure your child has the right vaccinations before they start school, when they come into contact with more potential sources of infection
  • Highly infectious diseases and potentially fatal diseases such as measles, mumps and diphtheria are still in circulation – if not vaccinated, your child is at risk
  • Not vaccinating your child puts them at risk.  Vaccination protects children for life from a range of highly infectious and potentially deadly diseases. Speak to your GP surgery to make sure your child is protected
  • A child must receive a number of doses of some vaccines to be fully protected.  It is important to complete the vaccinations at the right times or your child may be vulnerable
  • The reason some diseases have become rarer is because of the success of vaccination programmes.  They can still come back and spread rapidly if people are not vaccinated
  • To help stop infectious diseases spreading, at least 90% of the local population need to be properly vaccinated
  • Some vulnerable people – particularly sick children – cannot be vaccinated.  They are put at risk if others around them have not been vaccinated as disease can be spread and they are less able to fight it
  • The full vaccination schedule is available. If in doubt, speak to your GP to check your child has had the right vaccinations and is protected
  • Vaccines are thoroughly tested for safety and are continually monitored after they are introduced.

Singing Group

Our next meeting is on Monday 3rd July, 7-9pm at Angela’s.
We are aiming to concentrate on one song initially and then have a general singalong for the rest of the session, anyone welcome.

Five-day closure of Hempsted Household Recycling Centre in June

From 19 to 23 June, Hempsted Household Recycling Centre (HRC) in Gloucester will be closed to finish the work already underway to accommodate more traffic and reduce queues.

The changes will take effect after the June closure and are being made in response to customer feedback and increased use.

The temporary closure is necessary for the work to be completed safely, but the duration has been kept to a minimum.

Work includes extending the upper road area and creating a multiple lane system, as well as increasing the boundary size to accommodate heavy vehicles. The plans will also make it possible for a reuse shop to be added in the future.

Alternative recycling facilities are available at the HRCs at Fosse Cross, Wingmoor Farm, Oak Quarry and Pyke Quarry however residents may prefer to plan their visit before or after the closure dates to avoid potential queues at other sites.

Some of you may have seen me cycling around the local lanes recently!  I am training for a fundraising cycling challenge in Vietnam and Cambodia in support of a friend who was diagnosed with Parkinsons 2 years ago at the age of 46.

Please help me to support research to find a cure for Parkinsons by coming to my coffee morning.
