The Vicar’s Letter
Dear Friends,
On the day that I sat down to write this I had already attended two leavers services at both Horsley and Nailsworth Primary Schools. What a contrast to the day when I left primary school 50 years ago! Here there were presentations by the children, and tothe children, sweatshirts handed out by the friends and enough sobbing to fill a swimming pool.It was all very emotional. But then any sort of leaving is emotional whether it is a chosen move or one that we simply have to endure like a bereavement.
Our whole life is a journey – a series of leaving behind as each new day takes the place of the one before. We don’t know what that day will bring, let alone the ones that follow.
We like to try to make plans in order to keep some sort of control over our lives, but events and other people can often scupper them. That may make us very uneasy. Some people may be facing, even now, a very uncertain future for all sorts of reasons.
Psalm 121, written many centuries ago, suggests that we will never be alone in those moments. The writer has obviously experienced troubled times, yet finds reassur- ance in God’s continuing presence with him, no matter what. The final verse goes like this: “the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and evermore”.
Wherever life may lead you, may you know that God walks with you every step of the way.

Kingscote Parish Council
Following the recent Parish Council meeting, Jon Bowers (Bagpath) was co-
opted onto the Kingscote Parish Council. The Council were very pleased to to see so much interest in the vacancy and thank all who made an application.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday 26 October at 8.00 pm in the Hunters
Hall.
Planning Application
Lasborough Park – erection of Ha-ha, removal of estate railings and change of use of land to residential curtilage.
Changes are being planned in the waste collection and recycling schedules in some areas which will come into effect in September.

800th Anniversary of the Coronation of Henry III
Henry III was the only English monarch since 1066 not crowned in Westminster Abbey, and it took place in Gloucester Cathedral 800 years ago. A variety of events have been planned in the Cathedral for September and October this year.
Church Restoration plans this Autumn
On 28 July we were visited by a delegation of Diocesan fabric experts from Gloucester to view and discuss our plans for further restoration work. As a result of its Grade II* listed status, the building is heavily protected by both ecclesiastical and local government authorities. They were in agreement with our objectives and plans, and will support the programme as it passes through the necessary authorisation process. The architect is working on the plans for groundwater drainage around the tower and the north porch in order to reduce the dampness inside the building.
The enclosed Appeal Pamphlet presents more information which we hope will encourage parishioners to contribute generously to the cost of the work. We will also be approaching recognised charitable trusts who generally support such projects.
